Livestock farmers in Sembabule district and its surrounding areas have been educated about tick resistance, classification of acaricides; the different brands on the market, and acaricide use and rotation.

UMPCU in collaboration with Norbrook Uganda held a seminar on 23rd February 2020 at the district headquarters in Lwemiyaga, Sembabule to sensitize farmers about animal diagnostic laboratory services offered in the area.

The UMPCU laboratory technologist in Ntutsi, Sembabule; Mr. Andrew Ampaire encouraged the farmers to test their animals before administering any treatment.

The Union, with support from Zoetis has two animal disease diagnostics laboratories whose mandate is to provide subsidized and readily available laboratory diagnostic services to livestock farmers within the surrounding areas:

  • In livestock resource center 3, located at Nabitanga Dairy Cooperative society in Nabitanga town, Ntutsi sub-county, Ssembabule District to serve livestock farmers within the districts of Kiruhura, Ssembabule, Gomba, Mubende, Masaka, Bukomansimbi and other neighboring areas.
  • In Butalangu, Nakaseke district, the lab is located in livestock resource centre 1 on Plot 62 Buswagiro. Livestock farmers in Nakaseke, Luwero, Gulu, Nakasongola, Mubende, Kyankwanzi, Luwero, Masindi and other neighboring districts can access these services.

The seminar was also attended by representatives from Norbrook Uganda and UMPCU staff from Sembabule district.
