Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union Ltd. (UMPCU) is engaging the leaders of its cooperative societies regionally, to discuss development initiatives. The meetings are also aimed at brainstorming with the different leaders, ideas on how to overcome challenges within the societies.

The team has begun by meeting leaders in Kiganda, Kitenga and Kiganda cooperative societies in Mubende district. The Chairman Board of UMPCU; Mr. Herbert Kamugisha thanked members for turning up and encouraged dialogue and unity in the cooperatives so as to foster the development of the livestock sector.

The Chief Executive Officer UMPCU highlighted achievements made by the Union under the Norges Vel/Nortura project; Sustainable Livestock Business Development Project in Uganda which include financial access to its farmers. He briefed members about the development of a farmer database of UMPCU cooperative members and called for their support.

The meeting which attracted 20 participants was also attended by cooperative leaders in the three coop societies, the District Commercial Officer of Mubende; Ms. Sylvia Namirembe, the Chairperson Kitenga-Kayebe; Ms Sheeba Kanyesigye, the Chief Executive Officer UMPCU; Dr. Joshua Waiswa, the Cooperative Development Officer UMPCU; Mr. Norman Namanya.

The regional meetings will be held with all the cooperative societies in the livestock resource centres in areas of Nakaseke, Mbarara and Masaka.
